James E. McLeod did his undergraduate work at Morehouse College and graduate work at Rice University. Prior to joining Washington University in 1974 as Assistant Professor of German, Jim McLeod was at Indiana University in Bloomington. At Washington University, he has served as Assistant to the Chancellor, and Director of African and African American Studies, and was appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in May of 1992 and in 1995, Vice Chancellor for Students. He is also Director of the John B. Ervin Scholars Program and the Danforth Scholars Program. His research includes the cultural history of turn of the century Vienna and post-War Germany. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Louis Art Museum, American Youth Foundation, National Council on Youth Leadership, Mary Institute Country Day School, and the Express Scripts Foundation.
