Jarrett Cabell

Class:
2006

The scholarship provided me with the opportunity to go to Wash. U. If I hadn't had the opportunity to be an Ervin Scholar then the position that I'm in now may not have come to fruition. It has really been a springboard for me and given me contacts and resources that I would not have had otherwise.

General Information

Jarrett graduated in 2006 with a degree in Mathematics.  Currently, he is an actuary working for Zurich North America in Schaumburg, Illinois.

What are your top 2 memories of the Ervin Program?

  1. My first memory would have to be freshmen orientation meeting the 25 others in my class and spending time with them.
  2. My second top memory is of the 15th anniversary celebration. There were a bunch of alumni and it was a really really nice occasion.

How have diversity, service, leadership, scholarship shaped you as a person /professional?

Diversity - being able to interact and more easily relate with people that are different from me.
Scholarship - just wanting to do the best day in and day out on the job with the opportunity that I've been given.
Leadership-taking the initiative to seek out, get groups together. For example, on the job getting co-workers to get to know each other for the sake of a better work place environment.
Service - to be mindful of others around me, in terms of the workplace. To be respectful of others in the workplace, to seek out, to understand what people need, be it resources, time spent, words of encouragement, or loving of others.
